Getting around in Würzburg is fairly easy using busses and trams. The campus is serviced by several bus lines running tight schedules. You can choose from lines 10, 14, or 34 stopping at “Am Hubland” (next to the venue, less than 100m) or lines 114 or 214 stopping at “Philosophisches Institut” or “Hubland/Mensa / Universitätzentrum” (either one just across one road, about 300m). Here are links to a static plan of all bus and tram lines or to an interactive map.
IMPORTANT: In Würzburg you always enter busses at the front door and present your ticket to the driver or purchase one from him/her.
Tickets for busses can be bought directly from the driver (cash only, avoid bills of 50 EUR or larger!), from vending machines (beware: change is always just coins, so again, avoid larger bills when paying cash) at some stations, or via the “NVM Tickets” app. The following ticket categories are most likely what you are looking for:
- Single ride ticket (“Einzelkarte”): 3.20 EUR
You can switch busses/trams for 90 minutes from the start to your destination as required, not usable for a return journey even within the 90 minutes. There is a “small” version of this ticket available “Kurzstrecke” at 1.60 EUR that will cover just 4 stops and no switching of busses/trams. - 6-ride ticket (“6er-Karte”): 15.70 EUR
As above the single ride ticket but can be used for 6 rides. Also usable by multiple persons on the same ride. For each person/ride on ticket strip has to be stamped on the bus (there are small orange boxes mounted close to the doors inside the busses which stamp the ticket with day and time, you will have to fold the ticket to stamp the proper portion). - Day pass (“Tageskarte solo”): 5.80 EUR
You can go on any busses/trams until 3 am on the next day. If you purchase this ticket on a Saturday it will also cover all of Sunday. - Group day pass (“Tageskarte Gruppe”): 10.60 EUR
As above the day pass but valid for up to 5 people travelling together.
If you are a holder of the “Deutschlandticket” you will not need any additional tickets for busses/trams.
Also, some train tickets will come with a “+City” option that will allow you to use this ticket upon arrival/departure for the way from/to the main station.
